Outpatient (or ambulatory) surgery is best defined as a surgery that requires no overnight stay in the hospital or clinic, although this does not necessarily mean that the procedure will not require anesthesia. In contrast, inpatient surgery is a surgery that requires at least a one-night stay in the hospital or healthcare facility. The doctor usually decides the difference, based on the severity and complexity of the surgery and any expected or possible complications.

A lot of people understand the typical surgery process, where the patient is expected to report to the hospital at a certain time for preoperative work to prepare for surgery, followed by the actual procedure, and then a transfer to another part of the hospital for postoperative care as determined by the doctor and surgeon cooperatively in most cases. However, many people do not know that there may be an outpatient option available.

Instead of the sterile practicality of the rooms and waiting areas offered by busy hospitals, beautiful and friendly surroundings are the norm for outpatient clinics. However, most clinics are closely affiliated with a major hospital in the area, in case of an emergency during a procedure.
